Nike Zoom Vaporfly 4% was rumored to dominate in six race of annual Abbott World Marathon Majors. It is said that from the 36 possible top-three podium spots, the athletes using this shoe impressively got 19 of those positions, moreover, the top 7. The name 4% itself was derived from the study that is sponsored by Nike on how much the performance of an athlete would improve after wearing the shoes. According to them, shoes got a big part in boosting performance thus result in achieving victory. This shoe is expected to raise one’s capabilities by 4% and let them perform better than their usual.

The Vaporfly 4% is super light, compared to the shoe at the same class and size. The men’s size 10 Zoom Fly would weight about 8.75 oz while the Vaporfly 4% would weight just 6.5 oz. That was definitely not a small number for a difference in weight. Lighter shoes means you could conserve more energy, and this is very advantageous for marathon races.

The secret of their ultra lightweight sneakers is the use of two layers of Zoom x Foam with a curved carbon fiber plate in between. The plate acts as enhancer for your sense of propulsion while the foam could give support in each steps as well as cushioning for better power output. There is a layer of blown rubber on the forefoot section, to help runners getting better traction.

Although the shoe itself is much lighter than the other type, but a number athletes felt that there is an issue of stability for this model. It is not because of foam, but rather because of the plates that considered quite stiff than the rest of the midsole. Being a layer which is stiffer, then you couldn’t be more uncomfortable than having to adjust your energy output so the carbon fiber plate would give you a proper propulsion.

Being less flexible also means that there is a chance that you might be drifting in your shoes during sharp turns and sudden burst of speed. While the upper material is thinner and more comfortable, but for some people, the shoes are a bit too wide. It means that they couldn’t feel the sensation of being gripped by the shoes.

Despite of being claimed able to raise performance by 4%, some people might find the Nike Zoom Vaporfly 4% doesn’t really live up to the claim. However, the increase in performance is not totally deniable.
